As the client's aspiration was to create a memory treasure bank for the entire family, Ming Ru Li and the design team utilized color as the medium to find the delicate balance between diverse functionality and spacious circulation. The living room floor, for instance, features two types of scratch-resistant timber flooring that seamlessly extend to the dining area wall, subtly demarcating the interior domains.
The TV wall, adorned with white masonry and complemented by bright yellow plates, serves as a display and a jumping platform for the cats. The opposite sofa backwall, with its contrasting blue color, creates an impressive aesthetic ambiance and generates layered visual depth within the limited space. An embedded oil-painting-quality laminate board becomes a beautiful view-piece for the entrance, adding a touch of elegance to the overall design.
The transition zone from the entrance to the living room is shaped by two full-height storage cabinets, which not only provide ample storage space but also evoke the interior's elegance with their vintage white color. The dining area, on the other hand, exudes warmth and personal tonality, offering functional flexibility that can be adjusted for use by two or four people.
Given the limited floor area, the design team prioritized visual continuity by incorporating hidden doors. These doors create a clean-lined domain outlook, enhancing the spaciousness of the interior and facilitating a flowing living circulation. In the living room, the hidden bedroom door visually extends the space through the cascading materials and colors, creating a sense of harmony and unity.
One of the notable challenges faced by the design team was to think beyond the pre-conceived singular usage and synergize multiple functions to optimize spatial economy. Despite the limited budget and humble interior footage, they successfully mixed and matched materials and colors to construct a warm and richly layered aesthetic ambiance. The result is a harmonious yet dramatic scenario that captivates the senses.
Layers Of Colours has been recognized for its exceptional design and innovation. In 2020, it was awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This accolade is a testament to the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
Layers Of Colours is a testament to Ming Ru Li's creative vision and ability to transform a limited space into a harmonious and functional living environment. With its bold colors, versatile design, and optimal spatial economy, this project stands as a true masterpiece in the world of interior design.
